Avoid these Adrenal stimulants.

48 hours until Turkey Bowl 2010.

For those of you who are new to the blog and maybe new to me one of my traditions is to play in the Turkey Bowl.  This is a group of St. Croix and Osceola guys who have been playing touch football for the last 20 years on Thanksgiving morning.    We’ve had years when it was 55 degrees and years when it’s been 5 degrees with a foot of snow.  This year looks like a cold windy day so those that show better bundle up.   We now have our kids play and their friends and it is a ton of fun.  I hope we have no injuries this year.  We’ve had a few broken ribs, a broken wrist, many muscle pulls and some concussions.  If you want to come down and play or watch we start at 10:30 A.M. Thanksgiving morning and play until the Osceola noon whistle blows.  Usually it comes down  to the last play like 2 years ago when Tommy Krenz through a 45 yard touchdown pass to Shawn MacIntyre to win the game 50-48.

The holidays are a time of more stress than less stress for a lot of people.  We have less sunlight, people eat to many sweets, maybe a few to many Christmas cheers, and aren’t exercising like they know they should be.  Here are a couple things you can do to decrease stress to your adrenal glands which help support blood sugar regulation and produce a lot of hormones that need to be in balance in order for you to be healthy.

Avoid these Adrenal Stimulators.

1.  Concentrated sugars

2.  Caffeine(decaffeinated is not acceptable because it still contains 60% of the caffeine).

3.  Nicotine

4.  Alcohol

5.  Allergic foods(histamine which makes you get a rash appearance is an adrenal stimulant)

6.  Partially hydrogenated fats(these inhibit steroid synthesis)

7.  Artificial sweeteners

8.  Overtraining

9.  Inadequate sleep.

I do a salivary test to determine how your adrenal glands are functioning. If you would like to see how your adrenal glands are functioning and why you may be always fatigued or can’t get to sleep at night or can’t stay asleep then this is a test you must have done.  It’s not very expensive and well worth the investment.

OK, have an incredible Thanksgiving, and avoid some of those adrenal stimulants, you will be glad you did.    We will be out of the clinic thursday and friday and back in on monday.   Dr. E

Will the Badgers win the Big 10 and go to the Rose bowl?

Last weekend of the 2010 Big 10 football season.  Going to be a cold one at TCF Bank Stadium for the Gophers.  Look for Iowa to bring 25 thousand die hard fans and trounce the Gophs.  Look for Bucky to trounce one of my favorite teams the Northwestern Wildcats. and be Rose Bowl bound.

Well we got out of town for a road trip to Bozeman to pick up Connor.  It was quick, leaving Wednesday night and back late Saturday night. The best thing about getting away even for a quick few days is to experience something different.  Bozeman lays in the valley between 2 mountain ranges.  I

I hope all of you had an incredible 4th of July weekend.  It sure was a busy one for me.  It started early friday morning with the Siren 5 k run.  I did a 19:40 which was pretty good.  That's 3 sub 20 minute 5k's this year.  Interesting how I wasn't running that fast 5 years ago.  The only thi

Confuscious said the key to success in life is "when you fall down 8 times, you get up 9 times". Most people quit things after the 3rd or 4th fall and make more excuses. Just hang in there and keep moving forward inspite of all the obstacles.. That is why I love sports so much because you c

  • Why I do weight loss.

The reason I do weight loss seminars is because my dad was obese his whole adult life and I saw the devastating things it can do to your health.  I also see it daily in my practice and there is hope for people who struggle with weight, are not healthy, and want to regain their lives. Diabetes,
