Don’t do what I did.

You won’t want to do what I did this past 4th weekend. I ran a 5km race up in Siren on the 4th. It was 83 degrees at 8am and had at least that much humidity. It was my best time of the year but it was brutal heat and my body wasn’t quite up to the heat. Remember when it’s hot out to slow the pace down and get your workouts in early before the heat rises. If you have a race then take it easy and don’t expect a personal best.

You want to have CPR training in case you may need to use it. after the race I visited my folks and they are getting up there(mom turns 80 today) so you never know what will happen. My dad was not having a good day and next thing you know he passes out. So had to call 911 and get a bag of IV fluids in him. If you are elderly you really need to hydrate. A good rule of thumb is to drink 1/2 your weight in ounces. So if you weigh 150 pounds drink 75 ounces a day. While I didn’t not have to do CPR, you never know when you may have to use it.

Saturday I went out and did a hard running workout and followed it by walking 9 holes of golf. Riley wanted to go down to the field and run pass patterns and punt the football around. I was tired but I couldn’t pass the opportunity to throw and kick the football around which is my favorite thing to do. Well after throwing about 50 balls and a bunch of punts i knew I would be sore but today I can hardly lift my throwing arm and shoulder. When you start a workout or do something new don’t over do it right away, you will pay the price.

Saturday night went to some friends who put on an incredible fireworks display on Sand Lake. I ate what everyone else did and boy oh boy I can’t cheat on my diet without paying for it. I was bloated and felt I gained 50 pounds overnight. Stick to your diet of eating healthy and don’t inflame yourself like I did. Slip and check in life. Glad to be back on my regular routine this morning.

Do get up and do your workouts if your energy is good in the morning. I love finishing up my workout s before 7am and start working by 7. It’s so much easier than thinking about when am I going to get my workout in during the day.

Do spend as much time with your family as possible. I really appreciate my folks and all the great things they done for me and Mary. I only hope I can be half as good of role models and parents as they were to me. Happy 80th mom!!!!

So that is a few do’s and don’t’s. Live and learn. Two steps forward one step back. Life is a work in progress.
